A customer brought this to me and said that it wouldn't cool unless it was about
80 degrees F. As I suspected, the problem was the thermostat. The Thermostat would
not engage no matter the setting, I jumped the two thermostat wires togther
and the compressor starts. This is a common problem, before you think about throwing
away a window air conditioner,check the thermostat. Replacing the thermostat
is a relatively easy and cheap compared to replacing the whole unit. Just
be sure you know it can be dangerous to work on this equipment if you are not
careful. Unplug before you do any work and turn on while it's unplugged, this is
to discharge any capacitor. I can't be responsible for you getting shocked. |
